In Black and Brown communities, projects are positioned to fail or are funded to barely get off the ground. The formula is to give us a little (underfunded) and watch it fizzle out unless there is a miracle. Well, we achieved the miracle by 1) launching CoBiz Richmond, Inc. (a 501c3 co-working/meeting/event/incubator space) in a challenged community, 2) growing the business and the brand year over year during the pandemic, 3) helping many people start and grow their businesses or non-profits, 4) operating the space 7 days a week, 24/7 as a resource , 5) facilitating new experiences, relationships, and resources into the City, and 6) making it into 2023 as a brick-and-mortar non-profit enterprise.
With gratitude, I have done my job and more while wearing all the hats; however, without an injection of capital and expansion of my board, the doors of CoBiz will close in 2023. I am hoping that our inaugural Impact Report, produced with the help of Impact Essentials, will help us attract the financial and human capital needed for CoBiz to remain an economic, small business, community-focused anchor institution for this area.
Thank you Chevron for providing the seed funding to help us get going. Thank you to my Board for your support. And thank you to all our CoBizians, customers, and strategic partners who value the mission and what we offer - we appreciate you. Lastly, thank you to my team for their hard work and sacrifices. I am happy to connect with anyone willing to explore ways in which you or your network could support us. #CoBiz #TheEmbassy #a501c3 #CoWorking #BusinessIncubator #SocialCapital #MeetingSpace #EventSpace #Wellness #People1st #JustGettingStarted #SmallBusiness #Startups #NonProfits #Creatives
